The Department of Surgery, Seth GS Medical College conducted one day Live comprehensive inguinal hernia workshop at Seth GS Medical College on 11th August 2018. Total of 259 delegates from Maharashtra, Gujrat and 24 Faculties from Maharashtra graced the programme. Thirteen inguinal hernia surgeries including pediatric, herniorapphies and various hernioplasties were demonstrated. Various laparoscopic repairs of the inguinal hernias were also demonstrated.
The CME started with lecture by Dr Abhay Dalvi on a lecture on “evolution of inguinal hernia surgery” and ended with lectures on “anaesthesia blocks”, “meshes” and “fixation devicess by Dr R D Patel, Dr Samir Deolekar and Dr Vinay Thapar respectively. A Quiz was organized about inguinal hernia and 10 successful candiadates will be eligible for hands on training in animal laboratory. Dr Pramod Shinde and Dr J B Agrawal were helpful to clear doubts of the participants especially for laparoscopic repair.
[URIS id=1249]The 4th AWR training course held on at the Digestive Surgery Clinic in Belle Vue, Kolkata on June 22nd and 23rd 2018. There were 15 surgeons from three countries who witnessed and assisted seven surgeries including open and minimal access component separations (Anterior and posterior). There was also an academic session on the modern concepts of ventral hernia surgery that was decorated with lectures from national faculties. We keep learning from our delegates! After the suggestion from the first batch of delegates, we have included clinical rounds before and after surgery as an integral part of the program to better understand the perioperative approach to complex ventral hernias. We get enriched by the inputs and encouragements from our friends who visit us in these courses. We shall, as promised, hold more of these in 2018 with support from HSI.
[URIS id=1163]The 12 th annual conference of Hernia Society Of India for the year 2018 was held in Chennai from September 6 th – 8 th , 2018. The venue was Hotel Hilton and the pre-conference courses were conducted In Shree Ramachandra Medical College And Research Institute (SRMC).
DAY 1
The pre-conference workshop was conducted on 6 th September in SRMC. The inauguration was done by Vice Chancellor Dr. Vijayaraghavan in the presence of our Organizing Chairmen Dr. Zameer Pasha & Dr. K. Balaji Singh and Co-organising Chairman Dr. K. Govindraj. The cadaveric workshop was conducted in SRMC cadaveric laboratory under the leadership of Dr. Manish Baijal. Eleven candidates were given hands on training. TEP / TAPP / IPOM / component separation were demonstrated and the candidates had a chance to perform all the procedures themselves.
Simultaneously the pre-conference laparoscopic master video course was conducted in SRMC auditorium under the guidance of Dr. Rajesh Khullar. Fourteen faculty gave lectures on various topics, and the course was enjoyed by around a hundred and sixty delegates. This was followed by mentoring by under Dr. Ramesh Agarwalla & team where all topics of controversy and technical difficulty were discussed in a panel of fifteen faculty. Training in endosuturing was given to around 100 delegates by Dr. Asish Kanti Hira & team.
DAY 2
Around 658 delegates had enrolled for the congress. Virtual simulators and endo trainers were arranged for the delegates as well. In the live workshop a total of 13 cases were performed (8 on screen / 5 off the screen) under the arrangements of Dr. Sandeep Dave & Dr. Saravanan In the afternoon the scientific sessions were conducted simultaneously in Halls A and B. A Highlight of the evening was International Tele-symposium with lectures from four international faculty (Dr. Eric Pauli, Dr. Flavio Malcher, Dr. David Chen and Dr. Igor Belyansky).
Day 3
Academic sessions consisted of panel discussions, hernia debate and a interesting hernia quiz conducted by Dr. C S Rajan. Dr. Sandeep Dave gave the Presidential Lecture and Dr. Pradeep Chowbey delivered the Lecture of Honour. Dr. Tehemton Udwadia delivered the prestigious “Founder President Dr. H. G. Doctor oration” All these were a real academic feast for the delegates and the faculties as well. The final day concluded with another International Tele- symposium with Dr. Wolfang Reinpold, Dr. Gustavo Carvalho and Dr. Davide Lomanto delivering excellent talks.

This was a single theme, single day CME and live operative workshop organized by Best Institute and Research Center in association with Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute and A. V. Hospital. The venue was at PMSSY Auditorium, BMC Superspeciality Hospital and Research Institute, Victoria Hospital campus, Bangalore.
Dr. M. Ramesh, Director, Best Institute and Research Center and Medical Director of A. V Hospital was the Organising Chairman and Dr Seshagiri Rao, Prof and Head, Department of General Surgery BMCRI was the Co- organising hairman. Dr Tulip, Medical Director Of Dr. Tulips Obesity and Diabetic Surgery Center was the Organising Secretary and Dr. Ganesh Shenoy from V. Hospital was the Joint Organising Secretary and Chief Program Co-ordinator. This conference was endorsed by HSI and KSCASI. Dr. Sivakumar, Vice president, South zone, HSI and Dr. Narayana Hebsur, Secretary KSC ASI graced the occasion. Dr. M. K. Ramesh Vice Chancellor, RGUHS was the Chief guest for the inaugural ceremony. It was attended by 132 delegates from all across the state of Karnataka and neighbouring states. This conference was granted 2 credit hours by KMC. Dr Ravi Ningappa had come as an Observer from KMC.
The event included didactic sessions, debates, panel discussion and live operative workshop. It also included CME on Inguinal Hernia and Ventral hernia. The live operative workshop was telecast from AV Hospital to the venue. The live operative workshop included Laparoscopic TEP, TAPP, E- TEP for Inguinal hernia, Laparoscopic IPOM Plus repair for Umbilical Hernia and Laparoscopic Nissen’s Fundoplication for Hiatus Hernia. This is the first time in our state conference that laparoscopic e-TEP mesh repair was demonstrated in a live operative workshop.
[URIS id=1130]The 3rd AWR training course at the Digestive Surgery Clinic in Belle Vue, Kolkata was a live testimony to the success of our previous two editions. The participation and enthusiasm keep on increasing with every course.
In this edition, there were 18 surgeons who witnessed and assisted the following procedures- Open TAR, eTEP RS, eTEP TAR, IPOM plus and plastic surgery reconstruction of the tissue defect.
There was also an academic session on the modern concepts of ventral hernia surgery that was decorated with lectures from national faculties- Dr. Sandeep Dave, President of Hernia Society of India (HSI) and Dr. Sumeet Shah, EC Member of HSI.
[URIS id=983]A Hernia Update – What’s new in ventral & incisional hernia? was organised on Sunday 24th December 2017 in Dombivali, Maharashtra by Dr Rahul Mahadar. This program endorsed by Hernia Society of India was attended by around 110 surgeons from Thane, Kalyan, Dombivali and around. The faculty included Dr Mahadar, Dr Deepraj Bhandarkar, Dr Sharad Sharma, Dr Jignesh Gandhi, Dr Ramesh Punjani, Dr Pramod Shinde, Dr Roy Patankar and Dr Abhay Dalvi. The program was a grand success and was appreciated by all those who attended it. Two CME credit hours are allocated by Maharashtra Medical Council for this program.
[URIS id=920]Ruby Hall Clinic Pune organised Hernia Update-2017 on November 26th 2017. Dr Neeraj Rayate Head-Department of Surgery, Ruby hall Clinic was the organising secretory. The symposium was attended by 280 surgeons and post graduates in and around Pune, Maharashtra. This was one of its kind event without any lectures and live surgeries focusing on common issues in hernia managements solved through expert panel of surgeons from Pune and national faculties. Overall there were six panel discussions of one hour each on open inguinal hernia, open ventral hernia, laparoscopic inguinal hernia, laparoscopic ventral hernia, laparoscopic hiatus hernia and difficult situations in hernia surgery.
In addition there were lectures from eminent national faculty: Dr. Deepraj Bhandarkar spoke on anatomy of anterior abdominal wall with reference to abdominal wall reconstruction (AWR), step by step lap ventral hernia. Dr. Parveen Bhatia spoke on laparoscopic inguinal anatomy and step by step lap inguinal hernia. Dr. Roy Patankar spoke on laparoscopic hiatal anatomy and redo fundoplication.
Everyone appreciated the new interactive problem-solving format of the scientific feast. This update was endorsed by Hernia society of India and Maharashtra Medical Council.
[URIS id=734]On September 29th 2017 Dr Randeep Wadhawan organised a Certified Endohernia Course at Fortis Hospital, New Delhi as a part of our commitment as a Centre of Excellence of HSI. Six delegates from Pondicherry, Chennai, Thane and Aurangabad attended this course. The course consisted of didactic lectures and live demonstrations of TEP with fixation, TEP without fixation, TAPP and IPOM.
